My Recent eBay Pick Ups September 2024. As usual most of this has been sourced from my local car boots and charity shops. A couple bits are from Vinted and there is one item on the list that I found dumped near my flats. I am going to do a post like this I think every month – I really don’t fancy getting in front of the camera for YouTube so hopefully I can just make a good summary here.
So let’s begin;
My Recent eBay Pick Ups For September 2024
Large Bundle of Athletics Weekly Magazines
I am still yet to list these I haven’t counted them yet either or even taken them out of the bag. They are from the 1960s / 1970s the one’s I have looked at. I have loads of them – probably about 100 or so and when I bought them the guy at the car boot said to me if I start selling them he has more to sell me.
I really should get a move on with this but I am a busy man but what I will say is upon looking at similar sold I see some of them were sold for £2.99 EACH with £1.55 postage. I paid £5 for the bag so potentially that is £300 although I really don’t know if I can sell any of these but we will see.
So, at the same car boot…
Secret Wars II Comic
This is nothing special but the guy I bought this from I have had loads of great buys from. He moved away last year but he came back and he done a car boot sale. I bought a nice pile of comics from him – not gone through all yet.
He had LOADS of 2000AD it’s a shame really as it was too much for me to find space for but I’m pretty sure he would have done me a great deal like he has done so many times before.
I am not really too downbeat about this but who knows what I would have got because one thing he sold me I will share next.
Amtrak Wars Illustrated Guide and Paperbacks
OK so my friend at the car boot sold me the Illustrated guide for £2. These are on there own worth from what I can tell around £40. He didn’t sell me the paperbacks – I got these off Vinted for £10 plus fees / postage. I got these as I thought would make for a more attractive listing.
At the time of writing this I still haven’t sold but I have had watchers so I suppose for around £45 these selling will only be a matter of time. Now, something else from this same sale…
Nebra Crypto Miner
I paid £10 for this it is a miner for a cryptocurrency called Helium HNT. I have not listed this yet because I do buy certain Cryptocurrencies as a kind of long term investment and I thought maybe this could help save up a couple Monero coins.
I haven’t got this quite up and running yet. It looks to be in good order but just need to get it operational. I paid £10 for this and to sell on eBay I think I can get around £50.
It is something I think will sell once I actually do list it. Just like this next find (laughing emoji)
Large Bundle of Power Rangers Zords
I didn’t get these from the car boot or charity shop lol It’s a bit gross really as I was walking home from the shop and I spotted 2 carrier bags full next to somebody’s dust bin.
It took my a whole day almost to clean – there was ladybirds, woodlice, spiders and all sorts in this bag because of the rain and weather. Although, I probably got to this just in time.
Maybe I should be embarrassed to write this but STILL (I think) what a find.
There was even the original 1993 Megazord in here and after doing my research on Google I was able to put basically 6 megazords together. I stopped watching power rangers years ago – I would probably like to watch it again (the Inner child in me) but anyway I had no idea what was what in this bundle for the most part.
Some of it is pretty complicated – I bought a HUGE Beast Morphers Megazord bundle earlier this year. I could have made a lot more money than I did but I could not work out how to put literally any of it together – even though I had Instructions.
This lot was a bit easier but I think maybe there might have been some of it I could have built but I didn’t.
So yes I got there in the end and with some of other Power Rangers figures I had laying around this whole lot I sold today for £60 PLUS £5.21 postage – I think I could have got more MOST DEFINITELY but as this was basically found next to someone’s dustbin I think this was worth it.
Now, moving on…
10x Arthur C Clarke Books
For this bundle I had 4 books already by Arthur C Clarke just collecting dust, I got 2 more with some other books on Vinted and I bought 4 more at the car boot. There was another bundle I had on my store prior to this but as I sold one of the books from this lot (2001 Space Odyssey) for £25 I had these books annoyingly just laying around. So it was good to get the others to give me a reason to list again.
I like to do this sometimes when I have stuff I am not dealing with I’ll buy something to go with and I will end up listing the new bits with the old bits. Method to madness I think but it works for me.
So, also I bought…
2 Vintage Powell Craft Rag Dolls
I really have not been able to help myself with buying plush recently. This doll kind of stuck out like a sore thumb for me – I got two of these the same and I paid £5 for both of them.
I think I see comps that had these at over £10 but since I have seen them going for less. I’ve not found many similar listings – I possibly am missing a keyword or two in the title but anyway I have listed these dolls for £11.95 each with postage not included.
In my mind I think this would make them an OK buy but probably I think the price may have to come down at some point as so far I just haven’t had much Interest.
We shall see about this. I like these dolls but there is only so much room for sentiment but we’ll see what happens – quite like this next one… (This might shock You)
Biblia Sagrada – Brazillian Portuguese Bible
I got given this free at the car boot a couple weeks back but the reason I picked it up was I did want to buy THIS. I’ve had a few Bibles that have sold on eBay before – not Brazilian Portuguese Bibles but I have sold other bibles and even other religious books like the Quran, the Torah and book of Mormon also.
It is pretty surprising how well some of these books can sell for. A lot of people think they are not worth anything I think because so many Bibles are given away for free but old bibles especially do sell.
This one I have only just listed but I think its pretty nice. The binding is a nice kind of leather and the pages are painted gold along the edges. Perhaps the fact that this book isn’t English may make this difficult trying to sell on eBay UK but its a cool challenge I think. I’ve sold foreign books before but this will be a first for me.
Although, I am more confident with trying to sell this next lot of items.
Batman Graphic Novels
The guy I bought these from I thought was pretty cool. Sometimes I just want to spend my money on peoples stalls at the car boot because I like them. This guy was selling his daughters old graphic novels and comics and I was cool with spending my money on his stall.
He was asking a lot for some of these I thought but I did some comps and I think I got a good deal for £13.
I got;
- Batman & Robin: Batman Vs. Robin Hardback
- Batman R.I.P Graphic Novel
- Batman R.I.P Prequel – the Black Glove
- Batman The Killing Joke Deluxe Hardback
The first book I am listing for 14.55£ that should make a big chunk of my money back. The next two will bundle together for £15 and the Killing Joke maybe I can get £8.
Really, I should have bought the other Grant Morrison book – Batman and Son to make a better bundle but I got the Killing joke Instead. It was pretty annoying as didn’t want to pay £4 for each book.
So I don’t think this was a great deal with the profit I am expecting to make but I like to have things like this as these are things I would collect if I was a proper collector.
I have a lot of comics already really but I wouldn’t consider them my collection as I would sell all of them if the opportunity was there.
Now I don’t just buy things because I like them – a good example is this…
Lot of 52 Key Stage Reading Books – Project X Alien Adventures
This was a charity shop pick up. They was selling these 3 x for £1. In total I paid over £13 for all these but I see the last lot of 52 on eBay sold for £49.95 with postage so I thought this was worth me getting.
I am pretty careful with buying books usually – I always look up before I buy most the time on eBay, Google and sometimes Amazon. Although, I tend to find the best way to sell books on eBay is when you can lot a load of them together to make a bundle.
A lot of books on there own aren’t worth dealing with but when you can get a nice pile you can do alright off some deals.
This Project X Alien bundle I think could be good for a child learning to read at home.
Maybe a school would want them if not but either way the last lot like this I see sold for £50 + postage so hoping I can get the same. Just a matter of time I think and this next one I hope it will be the same thing that happens. (It Eventually sells)
Pat Parelli’s Horse Man Ship Course Volume 1 VHS, Tape and Books – Set from 2003
I could not pay for this fast enough at the charity shop. It was £5 and I thought this was a £100 set after seeing another for sale but I think perhaps I was a bit hasty here. Probably will be stuck with this one for a while.
Although, this is the kind of thing I am a bit of a sucker for. Obscure items that most people will not even consider picking up. I find a lot of bits like can be very profitable but I guess I will find out one way or the other.
Since buying I have seen these sets for sale for much less than £100. In the £10-20 area. One listing I see was with vol. 2 and 3 for £60. Perhaps its better to have the whole set OR just buy this as a DVD set!
So, I have put this up for £20 on both eBay and Amazon – maybe I will have to lower this or re-donate it. Or maybe this was actually a good hunch.
Oregon Scientific Cardcam Digital Camera
I really don’t know if this was a good pick up or not. For £5 it would seem that there is some profit to be made on this. I bought a couple other bits with this too that I was iffy about as well but I kind of wanted to try my luck to see as you can not always rely on eBay comps. I have listed for £22.95 – I will put the price down if no interest but if it can sell for this then I will be at peace with paying £5.00.
Car Kit Bury Technologies Hands Free Kit
I paid £10 for this and I couldn’t find any sets exactly the same so I think I took a bit of a risk with this buy but I see some of these can go for 40-50£ so it would be a margin I’d be happy with. It should be a nice flip – £10 into £30 but I do wonder what the demand is for some of these older items because of newer technology that is available.
People do prefer some of the older tech though so there is always this to consider. I bought this next item based on the same logic…
Vintage Grundig Microphone
Maybe this is a risky buy (again). It was only £5 but STILL I think this is a lot if you are picking up one dud after another. I’ve listed this for £18.95 with £3.39 postage – I think this is competitive but whether anyone will want to buy this I will have to wait and see. I much prefer buys like this next one…
Lion King Disney Store Scar Plush
I had a pretty good feeling about this plush. £2 I paid and I’ve already sold this for £16.95 + £2.94 postage. I wonder if this was too cheap – I looked today and I see I could have maybe sold for an extra £10 but its cool – this to me reminds me that I do have an eye for some things but I do also think I have a problem with listing some things too cheaply.
I think you live and learn and one good way of thinking about it is this paid for this next item which I think could be a bit of a fail.
Spiderman Fancy Dress Costume
£3 I paid for this 12-13 years old costume. I think its Tobey McGuire’s black costume but with a Miles Morales Spiderman mask. This was a mistake buying this I think and I wouldn’t have bought if I twigged this at the time.
There was a Buzz Lightyear costume too – really it was this wanted to buy but it was missing the mask and wings. I thought I’d experiment with this – I have been so negative towards selling clothing but I have turned a corner I think.
I bought this next item with this in mind…
Rolling Stones Grr! T-Shirt Size Small
After watching Ricky Resells on YouTube I have been thinking a lot about buying T-Shirts and clothing more. It has been something I’ve been avoiding for quite some time.
I will skip through a lot of clothes/T-Shirts with designer brands (too many fakes) but on this occasion I saw this and I noticed some were going for close to 40-50£
This was a nice T-Shirt I thought. Shame it was only size small. Profit wise I am sure this probably will only make me £5-10 on top of the £5 I spent. I have seen others but they are listed for a lot less then $47 USD but Its been good being this as I have bought other clothes since.
Mighty Mouse 224 pcs Vintage Puzzle
I absolutely love finding bits like this. I didn’t even look this up on my phone – I asked the guy and he said he only wanted £1 – I was very happy to pay this although I do wonder if getting bits like this are a waste of time because I think you should check its all there before listing.
This took me about 45 minutes and my back was hurting from leaning over to finish this but it’s pretty cool and I will buy bits like this again 100%. Also, because I bought this I got some other good bits too.
Ted Baker Size 26 Ladies Jeans
These were kind of calling at me. They just looked so nice – I have been pretty wary of buying clothes for the past year or so but I asked how much these were – the woman said £4 and I just give her the money.
Hopefully I can get back about £20. Condition is pretty good I’d say. Will put on both eBay and Vinted and hopefully one or the other I can make a sale on along with my other clothing bits.
Raya and the Last Dragon 2 x Disney Store Plush
I think this was a pretty good find. I’d already bought a Simba Lion King plush for £1.50 – expensive but after I picked up this and asked how much? The seller said there was the dragon as well. It was a little girl on the stall and was she pretty funny because her dad was saying one price and she was saying she wanted 50p more lol They had almost £20 from, everything I bought but all good stuff.
I also got a Dreamcast rumble pack for £1 and thinking about it I reckon maybe there was other stuff here too that I missed.
About the plush though – I am hoping to get around £29 for both so good buy I thought. I may need to put the price down but will see what happens.
Stephen King IT Pennywise The Clown Mask
Got this for £1 – thought Halloween soon so easy £10 hopefully.
If not I can scare my nephew with it or make him laugh more likely. It’s pretty scary I think and funny fact if you image search this 2 black guys used this same kind of mask for an armed robbery last year – it’s on google.
Probably a bad idea to sell this with my DNA on it lol in case someone does the same but £1 into £10 I think is a pretty good return if this sells as expected.
1963 Mouse Trap Board Game
After I bought the Mighty Mouse puzzle this was on the same stall. I wasn’t really thinking of buying it but I asked about it and the man selling it said he’d sell it for £2.
The box is pretty rough but it was all in here. I have already sold the ball out of here to someone in Canada for £12.95 – apparently it is a very unique piece. I don’t know much about this but potentially the rest of the game I can get £9-10 for so good buy I think.
1960s Ballet Fuzzy Felt
From the same stall I bought the Mighty Mouse Puzzle and the Mouse Trap game I got this for another £2. I have already had watchers on this item and I expect it should sell for about £12. I’m not sure if this is complete but it looks like it is and it has a lot more pieces in the box and an extra board.
Red Trespass Size XS Jacket
On the theme of buying more clothing this was just sitting there and the seller wanted £4. I offered £3 and I was a bit surprised as this was accepted. It’s a pretty nice jacket condition wise and I think should get around £12 for it.
Not a great profit but it should sell as condition is pretty good.
Superdry Windcheater Jacket Size Medium
I thought this was a quite nice Jacket when I bought it. I paid £3 or £4 for it – I can’t remember but I have listed it for £18.95 with postage. The last one like this I see sold for £14 with postage but I think this worth the extra £5.
Actually, I did try this on because I would have kept it for myself but it is too small for me. I think this should sell EASY it is coming up to winter now so coats are a good pick up I think. Really I probably should have bought a couple more but a couple car boots left so I just might.
Philip Treacy London Fedora Trilby Hat
I paid £5 for this. I am not totally sure this was a great buy really but I know Philip Treacy is a BOLO brand (I think). Some of the other hats and accessories for sale are on sale for £100+
Also, I think because this isn’t a well known brand like Hugo Boss, or Adidas for example the chances that it is counterfeit are a lot lower. I guess it could be but I would doubt it.
Clothes I said a bit about in this blog post. They are good stock to have and you don’t have to pay fees on Vinted or eBay but you have to be so careful with pick ups because the counterfeit market for clothing is everywhere you look.
Kanga and Roo Plush
I have got 2 different Kanga and Roo plushes. One is a Disney Winnie the Pooh one and I also have a Kyle and Kelvin Deagostini Kangaroo and Joey.
I paid £2 for the Disney one and £1 for the other – both are pretty cool and each set should make me a profit of around £10 I am hoping.
Aristocats Marie Nuimos with Ashley Eckstein Spiderman Outfit
What a find! I paid £1 for this and I thought looked special. I couldn’t really figure out why Marie from Aristocats was wearing a Spiderman costume but I thought this could be like with Build a Bear as I know some costumes are worth more than the bears.
So I found out that this costume was worth about £10 in this used condition (I have just sold £8) BUT my biggest surprise was seeing the actual NuiMo of Marie was selling for £50 PLUS.
I am actually buzzing because only just found this out – I listed the costume a couple days ago but am only listing Marie now.
Harry Potter & Game of Thrones Book Sets
Yet to list either of these but usually I will pick up Harry Potter & George R. Martin books if I see them. I’ve sold 2 x Songs of Fire and Ice sets in the past 2 weeks. I actually got a result because the GOT set was missing 2 books but I found both at the charity shop the next day.
Lol Surprise Carry Case
This was lot was from the man who had the little girl that also sold me the Raya and the Dragon plush. I walked off from this after asking how much? but I come back for it and I paid the £12 that the man was asking for. In the case this comes with 6 Dolls and a bag of accessories.
I thought these were Monster High and heard these are great to resell but anyway these are LOL Surprise Dolls and I think each is worth about £10 on their own so I should make some nice profit on this buy. I’ve listed for £48.95 so fingers crossed.
Lion King T-Shirt
I am definitely going to be looking for T-Shirts more going forward. This was £5 in XL – straight away I see on Amazon one of these was for sale for over £40. I bought this because I had a feeling this could be a good flip – It might be or it might not but I have listed for £29.95 and I only paid £5. This will be going on Vinted with other bits too so hopefully will be a good indicator if clothes is something I should buy more of.
Gorillaz Stylo Tour T-Shirt Size Small
So I got this with the Lion King T-Shirt and again I was pretty shocked at the comps for this. I have listed for £39.99 but I should probably ask some people about this because maybe it could be a reprint. It is a size Small as well – I would liked to have give this to my niece as she loves the Gorillaz but then if I can make £40 back will be something that I am selling.
Final Word
Some nice finds for September 2024. As much as I think I should be giving the car boots a miss I am glad I didn’t. The charity shops have been pretty good too. The margins aren’t always as good as the car boot I still feel so blessed to have such good shops in my area.
I think that the other 3 towns near me are the worst. I think some charity shops have got it all wrong – why charge so much? I won’t go on a rant but yes I am lucky to have some good ones near by.
So, going into October the car boots are about to finish. If I am lucky my local one has got about 2 weeks left. Besides that will just be charity shops, probably a few retail arbitrage pick ups, Vinted and best part for me I can finally start working through my death pile – I am hoping things can get more organized and tidier heading into January. Should be a good indicator of what my future holds…
Anyway, if you would like to share your thoughts leave me a comment below and I will look to get back to you soon. I will probably do a post like this once or twice a month. I’ll do a what’s sold post next and hopefully this blog can be a good outlet for me going forward.
I shall finish here – if you are Interested in anything check out my eBay alxddinscave on eBay
Best regards – till next time;
